Canva Carousel Template: Set It Up Once, Reuse It Weekly

Karou · · 5 min read

A Canva carousel template is a multi-page design where each page is one slide. Search “Instagram carousel” or “LinkedIn carousel” in Canva, pick one, set it to your colors and fonts, and save it as your own master. Then each week you duplicate the master and only change the text. Download PNGs for Instagram, or a PDF for a LinkedIn document post. That routine works well if you post a carousel or two a month. If you post weekly and your text already comes from Claude or ChatGPT, rendering the slides in the chat skips the paste-and-fix step. Both ways are below.

Search the templates for the platform you post on most, then judge each template by the slides you will actually reuse, not the cover:

  • Does it have a slide for each type you use? A hook slide, a text slide, a list, a quote or stat slide, a closing slide. A template with five pretty covers and no list slide will fight you every week.
  • Is the text large? Slides are read on a phone. If the sample body text looks small on your laptop, it is unreadable in the feed. How much text fits on a carousel slide has limits that still read.
  • Is it the right size? 1080 by 1350 (4:5) is the safe default for Instagram and LinkedIn. See Instagram carousel size.
  • Free or Pro? Some Canva templates and elements need a paid Canva plan. Check before you build your brand on one.
  1. Open the template and set your brand: two or three colors, one display font, one body font.
  2. Delete the slides you will never use; keep one of each slide type (Instagram carousel template lists the six worth keeping).
  3. Save this as your master and never edit it directly.
  4. For each new carousel, make a copy of the master.
  5. Paste your text slide by slide. Duplicate a slide type when you need more of it.
  6. Fix the slides where the text overflows or wraps badly.
  7. Download: PNG for Instagram, TikTok and Threads; PDF for LinkedIn.

Step 6 is where the time goes. A template fixes the look, not the fit: every week the text is a different length, and you resize boxes by hand. If you have a Canva paid plan, its Bulk Create feature can fill a design from a spreadsheet, which helps when you make many carousels in one sitting.

Problem Why it happens Fix
Every carousel looks a bit different Small edits to the master pile up Edit only copies, never the master
Text too small on a phone Desktop preview hides it Check one slide on your phone before posting
Wrong size on LinkedIn Template made for a different ratio Resize to 1080 by 1350 before filling
Slides out of order Pages moved while editing Number your slides in the hook-to-close order

Brand consistency across carousels goes deeper on keeping a feed that reads as one author.

When is a Canva template the right choice?

When you want freedom on the slide itself. Canva lets you drop in photos, icons, arrows and hand-placed elements. If your carousels mix photos with text, or every one is designed differently, Canva is the better tool, and nothing in this post should talk you out of it.

What is the faster path if your text comes from an AI?

If you write the slides with Claude or ChatGPT, the template work happens twice: once in the chat and again in Canva. Karou takes the second step away. It is a renderer you connect to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor:

  1. Ask for one of your carousel post ideas: “Make a carousel on the 5 checks I run before I send an invoice, 7 slides, editorial template, 4:5.” Add your notes.
  2. Your AI writes the slides and calls Karou. The thumbnails show in the chat, with a PNG per slide, a ZIP and a PDF.
  3. Change a slide in plain words. The same carousel re-renders.

Text fitting is built in: each slide type has character limits matched to the layout, and when a slide is too long the AI is told how much to cut. The template is fixed, so every carousel matches. Karou has three built-in templates (bold, clean, editorial); on Pro you make up to 20 of your own with your colors, fonts, handle and footer.

What Karou does not do: photos on slides, free-form layouts, or scheduling. For those, stay in Canva. Canva alternative for carousels compares five ways to make slides without an editor.

FAQ

Many are. Some templates and elements need a paid Canva plan, marked in the editor.

Yes: a wide design split into equal slides, where one image runs across them. Karou does not make that kind; each of its slides stands on its own.

Download it as a PDF and upload it as a LinkedIn document post.

Is Karou free?

Free renders 3 carousels a day with a small watermark (plans), so you can try it on real posts before paying. Pro drops the watermark and adds your own templates, so every slide carries only your brand: free for 14 days, then $12 a month or $97 a year.

Start free and make your next carousel from the chat you already write in.
