Facebook Carousel Post: How to Post One on Your Page
A Facebook carousel post is a post with several images the viewer swipes or taps through. On a Facebook Page there are three ways to make one. A multi-photo post is free and comes from the normal post composer. A link carousel gives each card its own link; you build it with Meta’s ad tools or a scheduling tool, and you can post it without paying. The third is a paid carousel ad in Ads Manager. For most Pages the multi-photo post is the right start. Use square 1080 by 1080 pixel images, or 4:5 portrait if you also post the same slides on Instagram.
Why doesn’t Facebook have a “carousel” button like Instagram?
Because on Facebook the word covers different formats. On Instagram, a carousel is one clear thing: up to 20 photos or videos in one post, swiped sideways. On Facebook, people say “carousel” for a post with several photos, for a post with a row of link cards, and for the carousel ad format. Each one is made in a different place, and Meta moves the menus around often enough that guides from a year ago may show buttons you can’t find.
The cost of mixing them up is real: you design ten slides as a story, post them as photos, and Facebook shows the first few as a grid. Your follower sees a collage, not a sequence.
Which kind of Facebook carousel post should you use?
| Multi-photo post | Link carousel | Carousel ad | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free | Free to post, made with ad tools | Paid |
| Where you make it | Page post composer, Meta Business Suite | Ads Manager (unpublished post) or a scheduling tool | Ads Manager |
| How it shows | Grid in the feed, swipe after a tap | Row of swipeable cards | Row of swipeable cards |
| Links | One, in the caption | One per card | One per card |
| Best for | Tips, before and after, a short story | Several products or pages | Reaching people beyond your followers |
If the slides are a lesson or a story, use the multi-photo post. If each slide should send people to a different page, you need the link carousel or the ad. The ad version is covered in carousel ads on Facebook and Instagram.
How do you post a multi-photo carousel on a Facebook Page?
- Open your Page (or Meta Business Suite) and start a new post.
- Add the photos in the order you want them read. Drag to reorder if the composer lets you.
- Write the caption. Put the one link you want people to click here.
- Preview it. If the first image is weak in the grid, swap the order.
- Publish, or schedule it in Business Suite.
The first image matters most, because it is the biggest tile in the grid and the one people see before they tap. Treat it as the hook slide: one short line, large type. Our guide to carousel hook ideas has lines to start from.
How do you post a link carousel without paying?
Meta’s ad tools can create a carousel post that is not run as an ad. In Ads Manager you build a carousel creative with 2 to 10 cards, each with its own image, headline and link. Then you publish it to your Page as a post instead of spending on it. The exact path changes with Meta’s interface updates, so if you can’t find it, search Meta’s Business Help Center for “unpublished Page posts” for the current steps.
Some scheduling tools also publish Facebook link carousels through Meta’s API. Check the tool’s help page: each one has its own rules for the number of cards and the first card.
What size should Facebook carousel images be?
- Square, 1080 by 1080 pixels (1:1). Safe for the multi-photo grid, the link carousel and the ad.
- Portrait, 1080 by 1350 pixels (4:5). Fine for multi-photo posts and the best size on Instagram, so use it when you post the same slides on both.
- Text on the image: short and large. The grid shows each image smaller than full width, so a line that reads fine on Instagram can be too small here. Our post on how much text fits on a carousel slide has the numbers.
What should go on each slide?
The same rules as any carousel: one idea per slide, a hook first, the payoff in the middle, and one clear next step last. A simple 6-slide shape:
- Slide 1, the hook: the problem or promise in one line.
- Slides 2 to 5: one tip, step or example per slide.
- Slide 6, the call to action: what to do next, and where the link is.
The last slide is where most carousels lose the click; see the last slide of a carousel. For topics, start with carousel post ideas.
How do you make the slides fast?
Write the slides first, then design them. If you already write posts with Claude or ChatGPT, Karou turns that text into finished slides in the same chat: you (or the AI) write a hook slide, the middle slides and a call-to-action slide, pick a template, and Karou renders them as PNGs in 4:5, 1:1 or 9:16. Download the ZIP and upload the images to your Facebook post in order. Ask for the other size and the same slides render again, so one set covers Facebook and Instagram.
FAQ
Can I post a carousel on a personal Facebook profile?
You can post several photos on a profile the same way as on a Page. The link carousel and the carousel ad need a Page and Meta’s business tools.
How many images can a Facebook carousel post have?
Carousel ads and link carousels take 2 to 10 cards. Multi-photo posts take more, but keep a story to about 10 slides: past that, few people tap through to the end.
Can I share an Instagram carousel to Facebook?
Yes. If your Instagram account is linked to your Page, you can turn on sharing to Facebook when you post. It arrives on Facebook as a multi-photo post, so check that the first slide works as the big tile.
Do Facebook carousel posts get more reach than single images?
Meta doesn’t publish a rule for that. Test it on your own Page: post the same idea as one image and as a carousel a week apart, and compare reach and clicks in your Page insights.

Karou’s Free plan renders 3 carousels a day with a small watermark, which is enough to test the format on your Page. Pro removes the watermark and starts with a 7-day free trial, then $12 a month or $97 a year (plans).
