Instagram Carousel Download: How to Save Every Slide

Karou · · 4 min read

Instagram has no download button for carousel posts. To get your own carousel’s slides back, request a copy of your data in Accounts Center: the export includes the photos you posted. To keep a post in the app, use the bookmark icon to save it to a collection, which saves it inside Instagram only. Other people’s carousels are their work: third-party downloader sites and extensions exist, but they carry privacy and security risks, and reposting needs the owner’s permission. The easiest fix for next time is to keep the original slide files when you make a carousel.

Not with a built-in button. Here is what each option gives you:

Option What you get Good for
Save to a collection (bookmark icon) The post saved inside Instagram, all slides Finding a post again later
Download your information (Accounts Center) Your own posts’ photos and videos as files Getting back your own slides
Screenshot each slide One image per slide, at screen resolution A quick copy of one or two slides
Third-party downloader site or extension Image files from a post link Not recommended: privacy and security risk
Your original files The full-quality slides you uploaded Everything: reposting, editing, other platforms

Use Instagram’s data export:

  1. Open your profile, tap the menu, and go to Accounts Center.
  2. Open Your information and permissions, then Download your information.
  3. Choose your Instagram account and the information you want (your posts are under your content).
  4. Pick the format and the date range, then submit the request.
  5. Instagram emails you when the file is ready. Download it and open the media folder.

The export takes some time to arrive, from minutes to a day or more depending on the account size. The menu names change now and then; if a step looks different, search for “Download your information” in Instagram’s settings.

Instagram doesn’t offer it, and many downloader websites and browser extensions do. Two things to weigh before using one:

  • Security. Some extensions ask for broad access to your browser or your Instagram session. If a tool asks for your Instagram password, don’t use it.
  • Rights. The slides belong to whoever made them. Saving a carousel for your own reference is one thing; reposting it, editing it or using it in an ad needs the owner’s permission.

If you want to keep someone’s carousel as a reference, saving it to a collection keeps it one tap away, and sharing it to a DM sends it to someone without copying the files.

Instagram compresses everything you upload, and screenshots capture the screen, not the file. So a slide you get back from Instagram is usually softer than the one you made, especially small text. Two habits avoid this:

  • Upload at the right size. 1080 pixels wide, in the ratio you’ll post. Instagram carousel dimensions has the full table.
  • Keep your originals. The PNGs you made are the best copy you’ll ever have. Re-download from Instagram only when you’ve lost them.

Make the carousel somewhere that keeps the files. In an editor such as Canva, the design stays in your account. If you write carousels in Claude or ChatGPT, Karou renders the slides in the chat and gives you download links for:

  • A PNG per slide, at 1080 pixels wide.
  • A ZIP of all the slides, ready to upload to Instagram.
  • A PDF of the same slides, for a LinkedIn document post.

The same carousel can be re-rendered in 4:5, 1:1 or 9:16, so one set of slides covers the Instagram feed, a square ad and a story. How to make a carousel on Instagram walks through posting them.

FAQ

For your own post, request your data in Accounts Center and the export includes the photos. For quick personal use, a screenshot of each slide works at lower quality.

No. A collection saves the post inside Instagram. Nothing is stored on your phone, and the post disappears from the collection if the owner deletes it.

From the export, yes: each slide is its own file. In the app, a screenshot of that slide is the quickest way.

Downloading your own posts is fine. Other people’s carousels are their copyrighted work, so reposting or reusing them needs their permission.

Keep the original files you uploaded. Instagram compresses what you post, so the export and screenshots are lower quality than your originals.
